Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros, 43 years, was born in Sliema and currently resides in Paola with her three children Andreas, Anastacia and Nicolas. She is employed by the Education Department as a PSD teacher for the primary sector, and has studied pedagogy and drama in Malta and the Ukraine.

 

Yvonne has long been active in the social sphere, and has also particpated in civil society campaigns for Malta’s membership in the European Union. She was the co-founder of the ‘Women for Peace and Equality’ and campaigned on various themes including the Palestinian question and women’s rights in Malta and the Meditterranenan. Yvonne has had long stints in voluntary work with Aġenzija Appoġġ, and currently with Daritama, where she still works, mostly in the youth field. Yvonne’s main issues and concerns revolve around the social problems faced by the South of Malta and other similar problematic realities.

 

Yvonne is also a well-known and much-loved actress and has starred in in the popular teleserials Viva l-Ministru and Villa Sunset. She has presented children’s educational programmes on Education 22 and will soon be acting in another teleserial.

 

‘I have chosen to run with Alternattiva Demokratika because I believe that it’s the party through which I can continue helping people like I have done for years working voluntarily in the social sector. I love my country and I would like to see it grow in a renewed and greener Europe, and I believe that Alternattiva Demokratika is the party that has the best ideas to make this happen. With AD too in the European Parliament, we can make another step towards reducing our country’s political polarisation, whilst heralding a new era of a more inclusive politics that features as many voices as possible.

 

My work with less fortunate people taught me the value of inclusion and inclusivity – values that I would like to extend to Maltese politics and democracy, where everyone can reach their full potential, whatever their different situations maybe. Together with Arnold Cassola, I am taking the opportunity to propose a new way forward for Malta’ success in Europe, so as to give a breath of fresh air to our country and a better future for our children’
